As Assistant Manager of our clinic and treatment centre in Dublin, Sarah plays a crucial role in her patients’ life-changing journeys towards visual freedom. Acting as their first point of contact, she ensures that they are greeted with passion and enthusiasm, and that they go on to receive exceptional care throughout every step of the refractive surgery process.
“Usually I’d be the first person they see when they come in, or speak to on the phone. So, I’d be the first point of contact for patients, making sure they get a warm welcome and a smiling face, and I get them checked in and settled,” she explains. Sarah enjoys this patient-facing aspect of her role as Assistant Manager, as providing them with support allows her to build and develop relationships with each and every one of her patients: “I’ve had to sit with patients and hold their hand before they went in, because they were that nervous, and then they come in the next day for their 24-hour post-op, and they’re just so happy. The first thing they say is they’re ‘So happy I didn’t have to look for my glasses this morning’. Yeah, I love that.”
Having worked for Optical Express for over two years, Sarah has found that no two days have ever been the same. Working with a wide variety of different people, patients and treatments means that she never quite knows what her workday will look like, commenting: “You don’t really know what you are going to be doing exactly every day, it’s different every day here. Your role is very varied, so you don’t get bored. I’ve been here nearly two years now and I’m still learning new things every day. So, I love that. It’s never the same.”
As a good work-life balance is crucial to Sarah, juggling her career with being a mother to four children, she was delighted to find that Optical Express is dedicated to helping employees achieve and sustain this. Offering her the flexibility to work around her family life, she is able to effectively combine her work schedule with spending quality time with her children. “I think I’m a very good example of work-life balance with Optical Express. I have four kids and sometimes, especially over the summer, I was kind of panicking,” she says. “I was able to take every Friday off while the kids were off school, so I’ve had a lot of support. When I started here I was on three full days, and now I do five short days. So yeah, they’ve been really good to me,” she continues.
What would Sarah say to someone who is thinking of joining us at Optical Express? “I would definitely say go for it. There is loads of opportunity to move from the job you’re in, there’s loads of different areas, every role here is exciting and different. I’d say go for it,” she comments.
